personal observations |
ISIS has a long-standing goal to destroy the cultural heritage of Syria. This is very dangerous and this impacts many who place strong value on the ancient ruins of Syria that mark certain religious or cultural values. ISIS captured the World Heritage city of Palmyra and destroyed many iconic landmarks in the area to prove its dominance over the fragile ruins. The terrorist group also destroys these significant landmarks to shock the world and draw attention to itself.

ISIS uses its intelligence and strong critical thinking for the worse and to bring about evil across the world. I think it is very unfortunate that a group such as ISIS finds joy in destroying what cultures hold very close and dearly to them. Destroying and bombing these places shows bravery on the part of those in ISIS who support the cause of changing the world to their own views yet it shows cowardliness in implementing such a destructive and emotionally scarring way of carrying out a plan.

article ties back to the culture
ISIS uses cultural aspects of Syria to scare the world into believing the terrorist group is intimidating and untouchable. The long-standing ancient ruins make up a large part of Syrian culture, so many Syrians were heavily affected by this destruction.
